Sketchbook
It’s the eve of February 29th, 2020 and I find myself dreaming of the warmth and vibrancy of Oaxaca City and Zipolite I experienced this time a year ago.
“In Search of Forgotten Colours - Sachio Yoshioka and the Art of Natural Dyeing”
The sketch below was painted using brushes from AutoDesk Sketchbook, using colours derived from the Victoria and Albert Museum video of same name as the title. It includes four short videos in one, about the Japanese history of using natural dyes. The four films are titled:
In Search of Forgotten Colours - 5’15”
Beni Red (safflower; carthamus tinctorius) - 4’39”
Paper Flowers and the Omizutori Ceremony - 3’15”
Murasaki Purple (purple gromwell; lithospermum erythrorhizon) - 4’17”
A hope of mine is to get far enough in my studio setup in the next two weeks, and source some natural dyes to experiment with in the coming months.

A Sunday in February
Lately, I’ve been trying to become more comfortable and creative with drawing digitally - these are from Sunday morning. I have been deeply missing the sun and warmth of summer.
